» Therapist PhilosophyI believe that touch is vital to our well being, and that massage should not be seen as a luxury. My work integrates Swedish and deep tissue techniques to release tension and holding patterns within the body, and to relax and center the mind. I work with my clients to determine goals for a session or series of sessions, and we work together to facilitate the desired outcome. Massage is never simply something that I do to you.BackgroundOver the course of several years, I daydreamed about the idea of studying massage. I put it off as an unreasonable adventure, studying liberal arts, education, psychology and social work. When none of those fields took, I tried to find the common thread between the things I had considered doing—teaching special needs teens, becoming a talk therapist or a social worker. What I discovered was that it was the idea of making people feel better and moreover, empowering them to be more at peace with themselves. It took some time to make a connection between that drive and massage, but it is very much what I love about the work that I do.TrainingIn July of 2005, I found myself at an orientation offered at PMTI, and felt completely at home. I began their 18 month, 600 hour training program that August. Their curriculum covers anatomy and physiology, Swedish and deep tissue massage, business practices, ethics, and includes hands-on experience by way of the student clinic, fieldwork, and an independent case study. I have remained active at PMTI as a classroom intern, a practitioner in their professional clinic, and supervising therapists-in-training in the student clinic.Certifications & AffiliationsNationally Certified Massage Therapist: NCBTMBLicensed Massage Therapist: Washington, D.C.
