Welcome to Peace at Hand Massage Therapy

A note from the therapist..........

Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.  ~Buddha

Peace at Hand was born of the belief that peace does, indeed, come from within, and that we are at our best when we have a quiet mind, an easeful body, and a joyful spirit.  Injury, tension, life events and the simply busy-ness of living in a metropolitan area can all shift us away from our natural, peaceful state. Sometimes we need a helping hand to bring us back to it.

Through a unique blend of massage, stretching and energy work, I can become a guide on your journey to pain management, relaxation, body awareness or pregnancy relief.  Through your individualized bodywork session, you will be given the tools to find your way back in to balance.  Massage is never something that I do to fix you, but rather a subtle, often subconscious, conversation between the two of us.

It is an unfortunate truth that feeling centered and comfortable in one’s body has come to be seen as a luxury. I strive to correct that, making massage accessible to every body.  I maintain studio space in multiple locations, offer self-care and public massage classes, and hold regular seated massage events. I also offer a sliding payment scale and make myself available for out-calls.  All massage services are in the DC metro area, by appointment only.

Please click through the site, feel free to contact me with any questions (I love to talk about my work!) and remember to take a moment to breathe.

Namaste.

Like so many other things in massage, it depends.

There is no hard and fast rule, and everyone responds to the work differently.  There are, however, some conventions that I can share with you.

If you are treating a specific injury, you will likely need 4-6 regularly scheduled sessions before your mind and body have been "reprogrammed" and broken out of the most active holding patterns.  After that point, you will be able to gradually taper off.  "Regularly scheduled" can mean different things, but in a perfect world, you would come once a week for at least a month before tapering off.

During pregnancy, it is a great idea to schedule massage sessions with the same frequency as your OB appointments, starting slowly and increasing over time.

For general maintance, having a massage every 4 to 6 weeks is a great cycle and one that most people can find a way to keep up with.  If you are physically actve, you might lean more towards every 2 to 4 weeks.

The bottom line is that, like exercise, any massage is better than no massage, but the more regularly you receive the work, the more results you will see.
